Welcome to Badger Class
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Badger Class! I hope you and your children have had a wonderful summer and are feeling ready for the new school year.
It has been lovely welcoming our year 4 and year 5 pupils into the classroom and beginning to build our Badger Class community. Our first few days have focused on the idea that this is our classroom: a place where everyone belongs, contributes and feels safe, supported and ready to learn.
Our Learning This Term
Our enquiry topic for term 1 is Predator! Throughout the term, the children will explore the fascinating world of predators, food chains and survival. This topic will provide lots of exciting opportunities for questioning, investigating, researching and sharing what we discover.
Alongside our enquiry learning, the children will continue to develop their knowledge and skills across the curriculum. We will encourage them to approach new challenges with curiosity, ambition, independence and resilience.
Being a Badger
We have spent time establishing the routines and expectations that will help our classroom run calmly and successfully. The children are learning to:
take pride in the presentation and quality of their work;
listen carefully and use the appropriate voice level;
become increasingly independent and resourceful;
contribute positively to our classroom community;
treat others with kindness and respect; and
try their best, even when the learning feels challenging.
Every child will also have opportunities to take responsibility within the classroom through our rotating class jobs.
Reading at Home
Regular reading at home makes an enormous difference to children's confidence, fluency, vocabulary and understanding. Please encourage your child to read at least three times each week and record this in their reading record. Reading can include their school reading book as well as suitable books, magazines or other texts they enjoy at home.
Talking about what they have read is just as valuable. You might ask your child to explain what has happened, describe a character, predict what may happen next or share an interesting new word.
Working Together
Good communication between home and school is incredibly important. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to a member of the Badger Class team. We will always do our best to help, although a longer conversation may need to be arranged for a mutually convenient time.

12th and 13th October - Parent's evenings

I am really looking forward to getting to know each of the children and seeing everything they achieve over the coming year, We have an exciting term ahead of us, and I am sure that Badger Class will be a happy, hardworking and supportive place in which every child can flourish.
