Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 2! I hope you all enjoyed a lovely half-term break and that the children are feeling refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning. With Christmas fast approaching, we have a busy few weeks ahead, filled with fantastic learning opportunities and some lovely festive events!

Our Learning This Term

English

Our writing this term will be inspired by the wonderful book Einstein: The Fantastic Journey of a Mouse Through Time and Space. The children will use this imaginative story to develop their creative writing skills, producing a sequel to the story before exploring biography writing. We will continue to develop our grammar, punctuation and vocabulary, with learning tailored to the different year groups.

In Guided Reading, we will explore a range of engaging texts, including The Jamie Drake Equation, The Last Bear, Survivors and The Lost Words.

Maths

This term, we will be developing our understanding of money, including using efficient strategies to solve calculations involving pounds and pence. We will also explore negative numbers and develop our written methods for multiplication and division. As always, there will be plenty of opportunities to practise our mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Enquiry – History and Science

Our History enquiry, The Greeks: A Lasting Legacy, will take us back to Ancient Greece! We will discover what life was like in Ancient Greek civilisation, explore the different city-states, investigate the origins of democracy and consider how Greek achievements continue to influence our lives today.

In Science, we will be looking beyond our planet with our exciting enquiry, Our Place in Space. We will investigate the Solar System, the relationship between the Earth, Sun and Moon, the phases of the Moon and the science behind eclipses. We will also continue to develop our scientific enquiry and research skills.

RE and PSHE

In RE, we will explore the Christian concept of Incarnation, focusing on the question "What is the Trinity?" We will investigate the significance of Jesus' baptism and what Christians believe about God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Our PSHE learning, Being Me in My World, will encourage the children to reflect on their identities, recognise their rights and responsibilities, celebrate individuality and consider how we can all contribute to a happy, respectful and inclusive community.

Our Wider Curriculum

There is plenty more to look forward to across the curriculum!

• DT: Exploring architecture through history and developing our own designs inspired by significant buildings and structures.

• Computing: Learning how to plan, create and edit videos.

• PE: Developing movement, rhythm, expression and creativity through dance.

• Music: Developing our singing skills through Unlocking Vocal Potential, as well as continuing our ukulele learning.

• French: Exploring adjective agreement, subject pronouns and vocabulary linked to people, places and things.

Throughout the term, we will continue to encourage the children to demonstrate our CAIR learning behaviours: Curiosity, Ambition, Independence and Resilience.

Supporting Learning at Home

As always, your support at home makes such a difference. Please continue to encourage regular reading and opportunities to discuss books, practise times tables and develop confidence with everyday maths.

With our exciting enquiries into Ancient Greece and Space, there are also plenty of opportunities for the children to share their new knowledge and perhaps even teach you a thing or two!

Finally...

We have a wonderful term ahead of us, and I am really looking forward to seeing the children continue to grow in confidence, independence and enthusiasm for learning.
