Welcome to Owl Class
Dear Parents / Carers,
Welcome back to a new term! We hope you had a fantastic Easter.
This term, our topic will focus on Step Outside. We will be learning all about the changes brought by Spring focussing on plants and insects lifecycles.
In Mathematics, our Reception children will concentrate on learningon Counting – larger sets and things that cannot be seen. Subitising – to 6, including in structured arrangements. Composition – ‘5 and a bit’, then 10. Comparison – linked to ordinality. We will also be selecting shapes for a purpose, rotating, manipulating them and explaining shape arrangements.
Our Year 1 children will focus on the composition of numbers from 11 to 19 and working with numbers 0–20 in meaningful contexts. They will also begin a new unit on unitising and coin recognition, helping them understand how numbers can be grouped and how different coins represent value.
For further details on other areas of the curriculum, please see the topic web. We hope you find the topic web gives you a brief insight into some of the exciting activities we will be doing this term. Additionally, please continue to view Tapestry, where we enjoy sharing the children’s work with you and any additional information.
Our PE sessions will still take place on Wednesdays. It is important that your child comes to school in appropriate PE kit. Please ensure that jewellery is not worn for PE, and that hair is tied back for safety.
We ask that you continue to support your child at home with daily reading. Reading books will be changed on a weekly (depending on which colour book your child is reading), however, please ensure that your child brings their reading books to school each day.
