Welcome to Owl Class

Dear Parents / Carers,

Welcome to Reception!

This term, our topics will be Me and My Community which supports children with settling into the new rules and routines of school and encourages them to make new friends and feel confident in their class. It teaches children about being helpful, kind and thoughtful at home and at school. We will also focus on how they are unique and special, the importance of friendship and how people in their family, school and local community are important and can help them.

Over the first few weeks, our focus will be getting to know one another and starting to build those really important relationships as well as becoming familiar with the school/class routines

In the second part of the Autumn Term we will be exploring the new season about the natural changes that happen during Autumn, including how the weather changes, why trees lose their leaves and how wild animals prepare for winter.

In Mathematics, our children will focus on subitising and counting skills. We will explore how all numbers are made of 1s and focus on composition of 3 and 4. We will compare sets - ‘just by looking’ and use the language of comparison: more than and fewer than.

For further details on other areas of the curriculum, please see the topic web. We hope you find the topic web gives you a brief insight into some of the exciting activities we will be doing this term. Additionally, please don’t forget to check out Tapestry, where we enjoy sharing the children’s work with you and any additional information. Our PE sessions will still take place on Tuesdays, however as mentioned during the first parents meeting, this year the children will get changed for PE in class. Your child will need to bring in a PE kit in at the beginning in September (everything needs to be labelled, please) and this will stay in school until the end of term when it will be sent home for washing.

Our Value this term is Respect As always, please do not hesitate to speak to any member of the team should you want to discuss anything further.

Best wishes,

Mrs Axon and the Owl Class Team.
