Welcome to Owl Class

Dear Parents / Carers,

Welcome back to a new term! We hope you had a fantastic term break.

This term, our topic will focus on Beside the Sea. We will be learning all about the ocean, animals that live in it, their habitats and exploring the problem of plastic pollution in the ocean. We will also learn about what the seaside was like in the past linked to Mary Anning the first female palaeontologist. Following on from Mary Anning we will learn about dinosaurs and how palaeontologists use fossils to learn more about them.

In Mathematics, our Reception children will consolidate their counting skills, counting to larger numbers and developing a wider range of counting strategies. They will secure knowledge of number facts through varied practice. They will explore sharing and grouping. They will identify units of repeating patterns and create own pattern rules.

Our Year 1 children will be recognising and using coins, describing position and direction, and telling the time to the hour and half-hour. They will be applying these skills through practical activities to build confidence and fluency.

For further details on other areas of the curriculum, please see the topic web. We hope you find the topic web gives you a brief insight into some of the exciting activities we will be doing this term. Additionally, please continue to view Tapestry, where we enjoy sharing the children’s work with you and any additional information.

Our PE sessions will still take place on Wednesdays. It is important that your child comes to school in appropriate PE kit. Please ensure that jewellery is not worn for PE, and that hair is tied back for safety.
We ask that you continue to support your child at home with daily reading. Reading books will be changed on a weekly (depending on which colour book your child is reading), however, please ensure that your child brings their reading books to school each day.
